The Danube (German name: Donau) is the second longest river in Europe. It is the only major European river to flow from west to east. It rises in the Black Forest in Germany and flows south-east for a distance of about 2850 km (1770 mi), to the Black Sea in Romania.

The river flows through the following large cities:

• Vienna - Austria
• Bratislava - Slovakia
• Budapest - Hungary
• Belgrade - Yugoslavia
