A process in which groups select leaders or representatives using a voting system. This is the mechanism by which a democracy selects its leaders.
Some of the most common election methods include: Party-list proportional representation, relative majority, and absolute majority.
The rules by which an election are conducted (especially the voting system used) can have wide-ranging effects on the character and outcome of the election.
