Gothenburg is the English name for Göteborg, Sweden's 2nd biggest city at about 460,000 residents, and most important harbor, situated on Sweden's west coast on the North Sea (really Kattegat), at the outlet of river Göta älv and Göta Kanal. Gothenburg was founded in 1621 by Swedish king Gustav II Adolf, soon after the area had been conquered from Denmark-Norway.
