Thiamin, also known as Vitamin B1 has chemical formula C12H17ON4SCl*HCl

It's colourless, soluble in water, insoluble in alcohol. It decomposes if heated.

Thiamin is coenzyme of pyruvate dehydrogenase, α-ketoglutaran dehydrogenase and transketolase. Because first two of these enzymes are important in metabolism of carbohydrates, Thiamin deficite causes problems with it. Thiamin deficit also causes the deseases of paresis and Beri-Beri.

Thiamin is also used, in quantities much higher than natural organism's requirements, as medicine against nerves inflammation.
