Car maker Volvo was founded in 1935 in the city of Gothenburg in Sweden, as a spin-off from roller ball bearing maker SKF. In the late 1990s, the automobile business of Volvo was acquired by Ford Motors, but continues to use the Volvo trademark. The truck business of Volvo is still Swedish.
