Eastenders is a popular BBC soap opera set in the fictional Albert Square, ostensibly in London's East End, but actually filmed at Borehamwood to the north-west of London. Much of the action revolves around the market, and the nearby (and ill-starred) public house, the Queen Victoria.
Becoming the landlord or landlady of the Queen Vic (as it is known to its customers) is to court disaster. The first known landlord, Dirty Den Watts, (played by Leslie Grantham) endured an acrimonious divorce from his wife Angie, only to be shot (presumed killed). Subsequent landlords have also been shot, attacked, endured breast cancer, and been arrested for murder.
