Italian composer. Born 1792, died 1868. Wrote more than 30 operas as well as sacred music and chamber music.

His most well-known works include:

  • Il Barbiere di Siviglia (The Barber of Seville) - libretto by Beaumarchais
  • Guillaume Tell (William Tell) - Overture used as theme song for The Lone Ranger
