Illinois is a state in the United States named after the Illinois Indian tribe, which used to live there. It is in the north central U.S., and borders on Lake Michigan.

Large cities include Chicago, Moline, Peoria, Decatur, East St. Louis, Bloomington-Normal, Champaign-Urbana, Rockford, Rock Island and Springfield.

Before becoming a state, Illinois was part of the Northwest Territory.

Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States, came from Illinois. Ronald Reagan, the 40th President, was born and lived in Illinois.
