Internetworking is connecting two or more computer networks with some sort of routing or bridging device. Common devices used in internetworking are routers, bridges, and some types of high end switches.

Traditionally internetworking is thought of as connecting two or more local area networks via some sort of wide area network, although this definition is evolving to include the connection of other types of computer networks such as PANs.
