John Ashcroft May 9, 1942 -

Attorney General of the United States of America. Noted for his strong and rigid right-wing stance on many issues.

Born in Chicago, Illinois. Educated in Springfield, Missouri, and at Yale University, where he graduated in 1964. He received a J.D. from the University of Chicago in 1967 and briefly taught business law at Southwest Missouri State University. He began his career in Missouri government in 1973. He was Governor of Missouri 1984-1993. Elected to the Senate as representative for Missouri in 1994. He was nominated Attorney General by George W. Bush in December 2000 and despite strong opposition he was confirmed by the Senate.
