Austrian-American film composer (1888-1971), born Maximillian Raoul Steiner. Emigrated to the United States in 1924. Scored more than 50 Hollywood films, including: Cimarron(1931), King Kong(1933), The Informer(Academy Award, 1935), A Star is Born(1937), Gone with the Wind(1939), Casablanca(1942), Now, Yoyager(Academy Award, 1942), Since You Went Away(1944), The Big Sleep(1946), The Treasure of the Sierra Madre(1947), The Caine Mutiny(1954).
