Line of verse consisting of one metrical foot. Often used to break up the pattern of a poem, but in certain cases can be an entire poem. Consider this portion of Herrick's "Upon His Departure Hence":

Thus I
Passe by,
And die:
As one,
Unknown,
And gone.
