The orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus) is an ape with long arms and reddish hair native to Malaysia and Indonesia, especially Borneo and Sumatra. Orangutan means man of the forest and refers to the animal's human-like facial expressions. Orangutans are highly endangered in the wild.
