Romaji is the name for a group of methods for writing Japanese syllables in the Roman alphabet. It is often used by introductory Japanese students, so that they may begin learning the language right away, instead of spending a lot of time learning the Japanese Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji writing systems.

Two important systems of Romaji are Hepburn Romaji and Monbusho Romaji.
