Testosterone is a steroid hormone from the androgens group. Its main function is as the male sex hormone.

Testosterone was first isolated from bull in 1935. Today, artificially produced testosterone is used for medical purposes, such as the treatment of underdevelopment of the testes, or as a prevention of osteoporosis, which is caused by a lack of androgens.

Its abuse by athletes to enhance muscular development is illegal.
