A new (in 2001) professional American football league created by the company that runs the World Wrestling Federation.

The teams were:

Birmingham Thunderbolts
Chicago Enforcers
NY NJ Hitmen
Orlando Rage
San Francisco Demons
Memphis Maniax
Las Vegas Outlaws
Los Angeles Xtreme

The XFL folded after one season, due to astonishingly poor television ratings; one NBC broadcast receiving the lowest-ever market share for a major network prime time show.
